WELCOME TO ART CLASS!
2024-2025
I am so excited to kick off our year and create AMAZING art with our students!
Please see below for some helpful info:
SKETCHBOOK REQUIREMENT
All students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade are required to have a sketchbook for art class. These sketchbooks will remain in the art room and we will use them for explorations, notes, brainstorming, and more. They are a great tool for our students to refer back to and build their skills in a consolidated place! These will be separate from any personal sketchbooks they may have, and will be graded as part of their overall marking period grades.
Sketchbooks do not have to be fancy! They simply must have unlined paper, with a minimum of 70-100 sheets.
I have found awesome sketchbooks for around $7 on Amazon, $4 at Target, and even at Dollar Tree! (You will need 2 from there as they only have 40 pages each.)
WHAT TO EXPECT
Our PreK, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade curriculums focus on processed-based art, in which we will focus on learning our Elements of Art, introducing new techniques and supplies, and how to take good care of our art room and materials.
Our 2nd through 8th Grade curriculum is art history based, where many of our projects tie back to a specific period of art history and its related famous artists. This moves chronologically beginning with 2nd and ending with 8th, so that each year your child is building on their art history knowledge.
2nd - Ancient Art
3rd - Medieval Art
4th - Renaissance Art
5th - Impressionism
6th - Post-Impressionism and Cubism
7th/8th - Abstract Art and Surrealism
All completed artwork will be kept at school through the end of each marking period. At that time a folder will be sent home for you to view your child's beautiful work!!
DRAMA UNITS
We will also be incorporating Drama units into our Art curriculum! This will tie into our Spring play, presented by our FLEX Drama Club. Involvement will range from imaginative play and story telling for the younger grades, to designing our props, set, and costumes in the higher grades. I look forward to building community and excitement around our Drama program!
